Yoga @ Evergreen Brickworks!

Once in a while, something comes along that is so innovative, smart and inspired that it becomes a game changer – one of those things that goes from idea to total necessity overnight.  Last weekend, I wandered into the Evergreen Brickworks for the first time and couldn’t believe that I’d not only never been there before, but that I barely even knew it existed. Since then, I’ve been telling anyone and everyone who will listen that the Brickworks is where it’s at – a one-stop community hub where eco-living, sustainability, creativity and fun come together under one colourful umbrella.  I imagine the meeting of the minds that led to the new Brickworks went something like this:

“So, what do you guys think we should have here?”

“A farmer’s market!  Open year ‘round!”

Done.

“A skating rink!”

“Next to a gourmet restaurant!”

Done.

“Hiking trails!”

“Bike trails!”

“A climbing tower!”

Done, done, and done.

“A leash-free dog park!”

“A gourmet kitchen for cooking classes!”

“A speaker’s series…with Don Tapscott!”

“A bike clinic where I can learn how to repair my own bike and be a green commuter!”

Done!

“Oh I know!! YOGA!!”

That’s right folks.  It’s all there, in one place.  And best of all…there’s yoga.  The Evergreen Brickwork’s Yoga, Movement and Meditation program has been spearheaded by none other than Jennifer Findlay, the original architect of 889 Yoga’s yoga offerings.  Together with other talented instructors, Jen began teaching classes on Sundays at the Brickworks at the end of the summer.  This Sunday, November 7, the Brickworks will launch their expanded yoga schedule, offering free classes, live music, and yummy nibblies from 12-2:30pm.  Knowing a gem when we see it, 889 has already partnered up with the Brickworks to provide instruction on the first Saturday each month following the launch.  Other Toronto studios will soon be jumping on board, which guarantees that every Brickworks class will taught by a fabulous, experienced teacher.  Classes are held in the brand new, light-filled BMO Atrium, where large windows look out to the ravine’s gorgeous scenery.  I encourage you to stop by sometime – bring your family – and see for yourself.
