Sunrise at Sunset. Kalarippayat Practice in Nicaragua.
By: Nicky Poole, 889 Living Yoga School Faculty + Yoga Teacher
I recently returned from running a yoga retreat in Nicaragua, and was joined by many wonderful 889 yogis! After a surf, Victoria (loyal 889 student) and I enjoyed honouring the elements in this traditional Kalarippayat Namaskar. Kalari is a fierce, feminine and sacred martial art from South India that I have been studying for many years now. This practice, in every way, enables me to connect deeply with the five elements.
It was the sweetest moment. Practicing outside on the beach; sand between our toes, blazing sacredness of sunset, ocean waves crashing on the shore, and salty wind in our hair.
This is the way I pray. This is the way I connect to nature. This is what causes my heart and soul to sing, and makes me feel alive.
May we all find this, in our own beautiful and diverse ways.
