Seeds: A Spring Equinox Celebration

The Earth laughs in flowers.”

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Spring is the waking roar of our snowy hearts.

It is the light at the end of a (usually) cold and dark tunnel.

We emerge from the cave to welcome in the thaw of the Earth, the coming of colour, the sweet air and the melt of our sleepiness.

We are introduced back into the potency of creativity; sowing seeds that reflect what we’ve sat with over the Winter.

We are ready.

Just like the Earth, our hearts are laughing.

The Spring Equinox (or Celtically known as Ostara) is the celebration and representation of growth and new life. Day and night are at once in perfect balance (equinox = equal night). The light begins to elongate and grace us with more time every single day.

In tuning in with the cycles of Nature, we also see the mirror effect on our human bodies and energetic system. We recognize the balance of light and dark inside ourselves. We feel the sun start to perk our system up, as it does the flowers. As the Earth renews herself, so do we.

To celebrate this beautiful event, we can take time to walk through forests, parks and other green areas without a need to “do” anything. It’s a time to simply listen.

Some traditional activities of Ostara are working with herbal remedies, planting seeds and working on gardens. This can be done no matter how big or small of a space you have; simply planting a pot to have in your home is a perfect example of connecting to the new growth of Spring.

Use what you have to make your life greener. Pot plants, pray with the New Moon, light candles at sunrise or sunset, and meditate on the reconnection of light.

With this week, we seek harmony and balance in the beautiful energy of this season.

This is the official farewell to Winter, and a warm welcome to the coming of Spring.

On Sunday, March 19th, we will gather together in ceremonial space with SEEDS; to move, to laugh, to seed, to dream and to celebrate the triumphant return of the light.

Join us for this magical event to honour the Spring Equinox in loving community!
