Nurturing Mother/Daughter Connection

Nurturing Mother/Daughter Connection

Mother/Daughter Connection

Meet Lisa!

I’m Lisa Mitchell and I teach group and private yoga classes at 889. I am a mother of two girls, ages twelve and fourteen. I am also a dedicated yoga student and teacher. Of the tools and strategies that I have access to, it is the principles of yoga and mindfulness that I draw upon most to help me skillfully (mostly!) move through this time in my girls’ lives. I rely on yoga to help me pause, breathe, ground and summon compassionate awareness, thereby more mindfully choosing my response to situations.

Yoga as a Connection Tool

Yoga provides a valuable way to foster connection between parents and children. Our lives are increasingly fast-paced, stressful and full of digital distraction. Unfortunately, childhood anxiety is now commonplace. Yoga and mindfulness, however, offer us tools to unwind, to pay compassionate attention and move into our bodies and breath. The conscious act of creating time to be with your child to move, breathe and co-create sends a powerful message that you value your relationship and want to meaningfully connect. This is something I want to share with other mothers, to empower them with these tools that work so well for me.

Save the date!

On Sunday May 7 from 3:00 – 4:30pm, just prior to Mother’s Day, I am co-facilitating a Mindful Mother/Daughter workshop designed for mothers with daughters 10-13 years of age. During this workshop, you and your daughter will tune into yourselves and each other. Together we will experience movement and breath. We will explore mindful communication and reflect on how you will take away these tools so you can use them in every day life. As girls move into adolescence, it is helpful for mothers to build both a community of support and the skills necessary to navigate this pivotal time. This workshop will be held in a beautiful serene environment of 889 with other like-minded mothers and daughters.

I can’t wait to meet you and your daughter!

Join me and my co-facilitator, Martha Johnson – also a mother to an adolescent daughter – for this practical, fun and inspiring workshop. Martha and I have offered this workshop previously with great success. Mothers and daughters leave feeling more relaxed and interconnected. This is touching to witness as a teacher and mother, and I can’t wait to share it with a fresh group of mothers and daughters!

No previous yoga experience is required to attend! Whether you are new to yoga or a more seasoned practitioner, this workshop will serve as a springboard to integrating yoga and mindfulness into your daily life.
