Mary Paterson

The year 2000 marked the beginning of Mary’s intensive study with spiritual masters throughout the world. She has meditated in the mountains of India for days in silence and trekked the sacred ground of Tibetan Buddhists in Nepal. She has lived in a Zen monastery in France and immersed herself in White Tantric Yoga practices in New Mexico.

Along the way, Mary completed a multitude of certifications and now has twenty years of experience guiding people in practices that not only improve health but also increase love and compassion. Currently, Mary is studying under the direct guidance of the renowned Tibetan Buddhist master, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche. Mary is also the author of: The Monks and Me: How Forty Days in Thich Nhat Hanh’s French Monastery Guided Me Home. Through both her writing and teaching, Mary is devoted to sharing the transformative powers of yoga/meditation.

Having extensive ballet training, and having performed in theatre with dancers from The National Ballet of Canada, including collaborating with the internationally acclaimed writer, Michael Ondaatje on a dance/poetry film, the grace and discipline of ballet informs Mary’s teaching methods. Mary produced several fund-raising Dance Galas to benefit the cancer support centre Wellspring, where she currently teaches meditation to cancer survivors. Mary also holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology/biology and is on the Creative Writing faculty at The University of Toronto.
