The Origin Story
My boyfriend, Paul and I actually started Kismet together. We’ve always worked together (that’s how we met) and were looking for a new venture. We knew we wanted to get involved in e-commerce because it was something that really interested us and we wanted to learn more about how to run our own business online. From there, we started looking for products we could sell, but nothing really excited us. It was at that point we knew we needed to take a different direction and make a product ourselves that we were passionate about, something we believed in and physically used ourselves on a daily basis. One morning I was oil pulling as I always do, and it just sort of clicked. That’s how Coco Rinse came about, and from that point on we decided to offer products that we think are the “essentials”; products I use everyday in my own life. We get excited about trying to get everyone to make the switch to all-natural and organic based products.
Coco Rinse Oil Pulling Kit
Coco Rinse is a 100% organic mint flavoured oil pulling kit. Oil pulling is when you take a tablespoon of oil (our favourite is coconut oil, of course) and swirl it around in your mouth for 10-20 minutes before spitting it out. During that time, the oil is able to break down the plaque and tartar on your teeth making your teeth whiter. It is a great way to whiten your teeth naturally, especially if you have sensitive teeth, have braces, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. It also has amazing anti-bacterial properties and can really improve your morning breath! Even though oil pulling is a practice that has been around forever, we wanted to improve the oil pulling experience – this shaped the decision for the mint flavouring and individual sachets. I don’t know about everyone else, but my multi-use jar of coconut oil gets pretty ‘gunky’ over time, so the sachets are nice to have on hand. I also love traveling with them and have a sachet in my purse at all times.
How It’s Made
I would say what really makes our kit special is the quality of the ingredients. There are a few other oil pulling kits out there, but Coco Rinse is 100% organic, cold-pressed, and fair trade. Our coconut oil is literally hand pressed in 90 minutes or less so it is extremely fresh. It was important to us to have the highest quality of coconut oil because there are so many versions of coconut oil out there, and they all taste different, which can impact the oil pulling experience. We didn’t want to go with a lower quality oil just to save a few bucks. The fair trade certification was also very important to us, which is why our coconut oil is produced in the Solomon Islands by family run farms who are paid a fair wage for their labour. They send the coconut oil to us, and then it is blended with 100% organic peppermint oil before being packaged into the sachets.
How I Use It
I love oil pulling and so I try to make a point of oil pulling every morning. I’m nowhere near perfect, so some mornings I forget, but I find it so relaxing. It sounds weird, but it’s almost meditative for me. No one can talk to me for 20 minutes until I’m finished, and it’s a good way to plan out my day in my head before I have to jump into work. I’ve been oil pulling for a long time, so just for “fun”, if you can call it that, I stopped oil pulling for about a month to see how my mouth would feel. I actually couldn’t believe how gross my teeth felt and my breath in the mornings was horrible (just ask Paul). So it was a good reminder just how much of a difference oil pulling can make in terms of your oral health. I think oral health is overlooked frequently and is something that needs to be focused on more.
