Relational Somatic Counseling with Lisa Mitchell
Introducing a New Offering at 889…
Relational Somatic Counselling with Lisa Mitchell
I am excited to offer Relational Somatic Counselling for interested clients at 889. In this blog, I will share a little bit about who I am and discuss relational somatic counseling.
I have always been fascinated by human beings and what inspires people to make positive changes in their life.
Who am I?
I am an experienced yoga teacher with a Master of Adult Education in Community Development and Counselling Psychology. I am a person who has overcome an addiction; I manage my own anxiety and am committed to furthering my healing journey. I study mindfulness and yoga philosophy and am currently completing a three year relational somatic psychotherapy program. In addition to teaching group and private yoga at 889, I offer individual somatic therapy sessions at the Helix Healthcare Group, a centre specializing in the treatment of addiction, trauma and mental health. I am curious, fiercely determined, an avid learner, exceptionally compassionate, a mother and health enthusiast. I see myself as a guide, educator and facilitator of change.
What is Relational Somatic Counseling and who is it for?
Somatic means dealing with the body. In sessions, I work with the entire human being. I know the body, mind and spirit to be interconnected. All three play a vital role in manifesting health and wholeness. You may want to see me if you are dealing with anxiety, low mood, stress, addiction, trauma, relationship issues, self esteem, life transitions or are interested in personal growth and development. In sessions, my intention is to build trust and a sense of safety so that we can explore the challenges you are facing. I believe that we heal best in relationship with a trusted guide. Sessions are usually a unique combination of talking and experiencing, as I believe it is important to embody concepts and ideas. In sessions, the work is often to explore the adaptations and coping techniques that have kept us safe but at the same time inhibit our growth and freedom.
The tools that I draw upon to facilitate awareness and instigate change include:
· Authentic non-violent communication
· Psycho-education
· Mindfulness
· Intention Setting
· Yogic philosophy
· Movement and postural exercises
· Breathing
· Psycho drama
· Sounding
· Relaxation
Each session is tailored to what the client brings into the session. My approach is informed by my own healing journey and my intention to share with others what has been helpful and healing in my life.
Typical Session
Sessions are one hour in duration. Comfortable clothes are recommended. Our work occurs in the privacy of the Star studio at 889 behind a closed door. I deeply honour and respect client confidentiality. I suggest committing to a few sessions, as it takes time to establish trust, identify issues and integrate material. If you wish to book a session with me, please contact Signy ([email protected]) If you have further questions please feel free to send me a message directly.
