Jackie started her company, Ponytail Mail, back in 2016. After burning out at her 9-5 desk job, Jackie launched Ponytail Mail out of love for an active lifestyle. Her ponytails are carefully and thoughtfully made in a variety of colours and neutral options for every kind of girl and every kind of activity. Read more from Jackie below!
Origin Story
Growing up as a competitive dancer, I tried just about every variety of hair tie and accessory and had trouble securing my thick hair with almost them. It wasn’t until after I stopped dancing that I discovered these stylish and functional ponytail ties. I started making ponytails for myself since 2013 and used them every day.
In the spring of 2016, I decided to leave a toxic office job and entered the oh-so-familiar world of “what next?!” As a fitness instructor and long time crafter, I took my deep-rooted entrepreneurial skills and decided to sell my ponytails online. Worst case scenario, I could continue using the ponytails myself and could give them away as presents.
With time on my side, a degree in business and extensive retail knowledge (from my family’s health food store), Ponytail Mail was born at the end of July 2016. It took just under one month to get the website up with branding, copy, and photography. It was a true labour of love! Today Ponytail Mail has grown into an online store and subscription service that delivers handmade hair ties right to your door! This business has been an amazing creative outlet for me. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet and connect with so many inspiring lady bosses. I have been challenged and have grown in so many ways that would not have been possible in a traditional workplace.
Personal Touch
These little hair ties are extra special because each ponytail is handmade with love and care, right here in Toronto! I make each and every one of them myself, and I intend to keep it that way. Not just for quality reasons, but because it’s such an important part of the business to me as a tactile practice.
My ponytails are uniquely finished, unlike many similarly styled ponytails. These ones won’t fray! They also won’t leave that annoying crease or kink in your hair when you take your hair down… because who loves that post-ponytail wave? Hint: no one.
Some overlooked benefits include that they won’t snap or break when you need them most because the knot holds strong! And, for your little ones, the ponytail will not grab and pull hair out like those pesky metal bits on a traditional hair elastic. Bonus – they look super adorable on your wrist and in your hair. Who says it has to be function over fashion when it can be both!
I Use My Ponytail All day Everyday
I have a bowl filled with hair ties in both my bathroom and bedroom, as well as a few stashed in just about every bag I own… I always like to keep at least one new one with me, in case someone needs a ponytail. I use them to put my hair up when I wash my face and a lot of my customers also use the headbands to keep their bangs out of their face. I always have at least one on my wrist, and you better believe that they will coordinate with my outfit. With over 50 colours to choose from… there is something for every look and personality!
They do, like many things, eventually wear out. However, what’s amazing about these is you’ll probably lose your ponytail before they lose their stretch (ha!), or you can use the ponytails in place of elastic bands to keep things organized, keep bags of snacks closed, keep your yoga mat rolled up and to keep your cat entertained! I absolutely love to see what people are doing with their *well-loved* Ponytail Mail.

Not only is a great for personal use (ponytail, bun or wrist accessory), but it also makes a perfect gift. In the last few months, I can’t begin the count the number of Ponytail Mail packs I have purchased as gifts (at least 15!) and for myself.
