Stop, Drop & Roll: Yoga Tune Up at 889

Yoga Tune Up 1

I am thrilled to be launching Yoga Tune Up classes at 889!

A while back, I came to the painful (literally) realization, that some of the ways my body had become habituated to certain movement patterns on the mat, was beginning to take its’s toll on my body.

It was tough coming to terms with the reality that although my yoga practice gave me so much ease and freedom, the ways in which I practiced also had the ability to create pain forming issues that were becoming destructive.

I had been working with bits and pieces of the Yoga Tune Up method, to problem solve the acute pain that had been coming up. It was working so well that I decided to take the plunge and study to become certified in the method in order to understand the bigger picture.

Why Yoga Tune Up?

The result was not only feeling more pain-free than I’ve felt in years but integrating Yoga Tune Up into my practice and my teaching has empowered me and my students, to take control of the ways that accumulating stress and tension were manifesting into injury.

There are those of us who experience pain from working out too much, and those who experience the pain of tense, tight, connective tissue from not working out regularly enough. This pain wrecks havoc on muscles and joints. Yoga Tune Up is a method of ball-rolling and conscious corrective exercises that actually roll that pain away.

Serious training can cause tissue damage, but so can prolonged desk sitting. A stiff neck, tight shoulders and pain in the hips and low back can occur. You may be thinking that it’s your joints, but instead, consider how it may be your connective tissue. This tissue, known as fascia, acts like a sleeve that actually holds muscles, tendons, and joints. Fascia is your body’s soft tissue scaffolding. It envelops and penetrates muscle, and when it’s tight, pain can be dispersed to a broad area.

In this new class, Thursday nights at 7:15pm, we’ll work together to find and address your ‘body blind spots’. These blind spots are areas that are most often overused, underused, misused, or even abused. And they’re usually the catalyst for pain and injury. We’ll be exploring the multitude of ways that we can use self-massage techniques and corrective exercises to feel the best we’ve ever felt.

Who’s in? Let’s stop, drop, and roll our way to pain-free living, every Thursday.
